    From 12 December 2016 a trial of the new 10-year ‘Frequent Traveller’ Visitor visa will commence for holders of passports from the People’s Republic of China who are applying from within mainland China.

    This visa complements existing visitor visa products and is suited to travellers from China who have committed long term plans for frequent short-term travel to Australia. The 10-year ‘Frequent Traveller’ visa allows a stay in Australia for up to three months per visit, with multiple entries permitted.  Visa holders will be allowed a cumulative stay of no more than 12 months in any 24 month period.

    Chinese passport holders who wish to apply for the Visitor visa (subclass 600) ‘Frequent Traveller’ Stream visa need to first make an appointment to provide biometrics identifiers (fingerprints and photograph) at an Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) in China before lodging an application. The majority of Priority Service applications will be finalised within 48 hours of being received by the Embassy or Consulate. However, all applicants must meet the legal requirements set out in migration legislation for the grant of a visitor visa, including the requirement that applicants undertake and meet relevant health, character and security checks. Requests from our visa officers for further information before reaching a decision may mean that some applications are finalised outside of the intended 48 hour processing time.

    Note that the Department of Home Affairs does not recommend this service for applicants who have known health or character issues which will require further assessment, or an adverse immigration history.

    Applicants should note that there is no guarantee that the visa application will be finalised within 48 hours, and that the Priority Service fee is not refundable in the event of a delay – whatever the reason – or if the visa application is refused.

    Applicants are strongly encouraged to carefully consider their personal circumstances before engaging the Priority Service.

    Please note:

    • Requests to use the Priority Service must be made BEFORE submitting your visa application form. The Department cannot accept requests to use the Priority Service after your application has been submitted.
    • It is unlikely that your visa application will be finalised within 48 hours if you are affected by any of the following factors:
    • Applicants with any form of adverse immigration and/or criminal history;
    • Applicants who will require a health examination as part of the visa application process;
    • Applicants who are under 18 years of age without parental consent provided;
    • Applicants who have not provided information required on the visa application checklist.
    • Department of Home Affairs strongly advises that you do not make travel or any other plans that are contingent upon our compliance with that timescale. Department of Home Affairs will not be responsible for any loss incurred as a consequence of failure to comply with the timescale.
