Visa Application Process

 

Step 1: Prepare your documents

Prepare your documents in agreement with the category of visa you want to apply for.

Please note:

  1. Incomplete visa applications will not be accepted by the Visa Application Center
  2. Passports issued more than 10 years ago cannot be accepted
  3. All minors must travel holding their own passport, so all the registrations of minors on the parents’ passport are invalidated. At the same time the parents’ passport with registration of the minor children will be considered valid only for the holder of the passport until the regular expiration
  4. The photo on the visa form should be of ICAO format (4X3.5cm), with white background and should be not more than 6 months old
  5. The passport should contain at least two consecutive totally blank pages.

Step 2: Submit supporting documents and your passport

For Individual Visas:

Before applying, please make sure that you are clear about your purpose of visit. Do remember that the visa application center is allowed to assist and help you through the entire visa application process but is not permitted to advise or guide you on choosing a visa category. Our work is primarily administrative and we have no saying in the decision making process.

Once your documents are complete, you can come to the Application Center to submit your documents, from Monday to Friday (excluding National Holidays) from 8:00 to 15:00, without scheduling any appointment.

Once you reach the center, please follow the below steps:

  1. Register yourself at the entrance providing your passport and stating the purpose of your visit.
  2. The security guard will issue a token number to you.
  3. Wait in the waiting area for your number to be called to the counter
  4. Deliver your passport and the documents to the Submission Officer for the check against the checklist.
  5. In case the documents are complete, in agreement with the Embassy requests, the officer will issue a receipt including the visa fee and the service fee you have to pay in cash at the counter. You have to keep the receipt with you for the collection of the passport when your visa is ready.
  6. After the payment your biometric information should be collected.
  7. Once the biometric information capture is completed, you can leave the center.

Please note:

The Visa Application Center is authorized by the Embassy to receive a service fee of 28 Euros for each applicant.

The payment has to be done in cash at the Submission Counter and the applicant is recommended to check the change for the fees from the cashier.

Pleasa kindly be informed it is still possible to apply for a visa at Consular Section of the Embassy of Malta/Consulate of Malta.

Step 3: Case processing times and case handling

The processing time of a Schengen visa depends on each individual case. Applications for Schengen visas can be submitted at the earliest 90 days before the planned travel date.

The regular processing time is 10 calendar days.

Please note:

For Postal Applications the processing time will start from the day the missing documents have been provided to the Application Center or the correct payment has been received.

Step 4: Application results and return of passport

When the Embassy has processed the visa application, the applicant’s passport will be sent back to Malta Visa Application Center with the Embassy decision in a sealed envelope. The Visa Center will contact you once the passport is back from the Embassy.

Please note:

Malta Visa Application Center will return all passports to Malta Embassy if they are not collected within 30 days after processing. Malta Visa Application Center is not responsible for the applicants’ passport once it has been sent back to the Embassy.
