PR 26B SPOUSE
A foreigner is a spouse of a South African citizen or permanent resident for five years and satisfies the Director-General that a good faith spousal relationship exists. Such permit shall lapse if at any time within two years from issuing of the permit, the good faith spousal relationship no longer subsists, save for case of death.
A foreigner who has been issued with a permanent residence permit in terms of section 26(b) shall, within the last six months of the second year following the issuing of that permit, avail himself or herself for an interview at any office of the Department.

Photograph specifications for visas, permits etc
Photographs must be:
- 35mm in width and 45mm in length
- A close-up of your head and top of your shoulders so that your face takes up 70 – 80% of the photograph Of high quality with no ink marks, lines or creases and not damaged
- Taken against a white background
The photograph must:
- Show you looking directly at the camera
Have appropriate brightness and contrast
Head coverings are not permitted, except for religious reasons, but your facial features must be clearly shown.
Spectacles may be worn provided that the lenses do not make the eyes invisible.

Applicants who have submitted their application at the South Africa Visa application centres in China can receive their processed envelop in Embassy/Consulate after 8 months starting from the day after the date of submission. The processing time is counted from the date when the Embassy of South Africa in Beijing and the Consulate General of South Africa in Shanghai receives the application documents; it will not include the application delivery time between the Visa Application Centre and Embassy/Consulate. Visa application submitted in Chengdu/Shenyang/Wuhan /Xi’an Visa Application Centre will be delivered to the Embassy of South Africa in Beijing for processing. Visa application submitted in Guangzhou/Hangzhou/Jinan Visa Application Centre will be delivered to Consulate General of South Africa in Shanghai for processing. Please be informed that the processing time may vary depending on individual circumstances.
